“Close-Up - Primer Pla" is a visual narrative memoir, looking back and looking forward, a filmic poem of future nostalgia and selective memory. With a cinematic style, using mathematic patterns in nature like spiral, fractals, voronoi, the symbolic tradition of Castells, the textures and shapes of modern architectural landscapes of Catalunya; a visual storytelling materializing thoughts, allegories, scenic metaphors and imaginary skylines. The gaze is on the details, the poetry, the beauty of the senses and the longing for an inclusive and sustainable future, the rituals of togetherness and solidarity, images of embrace and openness of a community.

Under the Light of the Sea (Sota la llum del mar)

Sota la Llum de Mar’ is a photographic essay that aims to dignify each and every one of the victims of Francoism in the Spain of the civil war and postwar eras. The project is based on the story of my grandfather’s little brother, Tomás Pons Albesa, who was shot at Camp de la Bota in Barcelona in 1941, at the age of 31. I started an investigation that led me to travel to the places where Tomás spent the last moments of his life. Tracing his presence in the documents of the time, I build a new story reminiscent of a past that is present through of the landscape but also in its lights and shadows.

A staged reading of excerpts from Brigadistes: Lives for Liberty by Jordi Martí-Rueda, translated by Mary Ann Newman (Pluto Press, March 2022). In 1936 something extraordinary happened. As the threat of fascism swept across the Iberian peninsula, thousands of people from all over the world left their families and jobs to heed the call - No Pasarán! History has never seen a wave of solidarity like it. The Spanish Civil War ended in 1939 with the Republic crushed, but the revolutionary dream of the thousands of international volunteers has never burnt out.

When does a war end?
In December 1992, in a Sarajevo hospital under shelling, a woman wanted to drown the baby she had just given birth to. The baby was born as a result of rape and seen in the mother's eyes as the seed of the enemy.
Lejla, Alen and Ajna, are children born of war. They were born of hatred, but theirs is now a wonderful love story, in search of their mothers and justice they have never had. For Meliha, Nevenka and Milica the war is not over. All of them, as well as the other women in their families were victims of sexual violence caused by troops of different banners. This documentary shows the witnesses and their struggle to break the silence and overcome the stigma in a society that still suffers the consequences of war, 30 years later.

Nevenka, Meliha, Milica, Alen, Lejla, Aina: All of them are war survivors and victims of peace, because for 30 years have suffered from institutional oblivion and social stigma, as well as the physical and psychological consequences of war rape.
But not everything is dark. Some have stopped being afraid and are still bringing war criminals to justice. And sons and daughters born as a result of rape, who are now young adults, are no longer the seed of hatred that the aggressors sought to plant, but a testament of how love and the ability to overcome can defeat barbarism.

A gala dance program by the duo behind the festival Girona en Moviment, David Rodriguez and Luke Prunty, who will perform Peace, Peace, Peace!, about the music and devotion to peace of Pau Casals; Two Old Fishermen, based on the Catalan musical form of the Havaneres, traditionally sung by fishermen on the Costa Brava; and Dying of Hunger, a comical piece based on a song by the Catalan satirical musicians of La Trinca.
